Food for Thought...The Story of the Butterfly

This is one of my favorite stories, it reminds me that we sometimes need the hard times to grow and learn, and become who we are meant to be.  It reminds me that sometimes we also need to let other people stumble in order to learn and grow.

Should I make this?

lemon cake

Today is one of my close friend's birthday, so I want to make something special for her.  Tomorrow she is coming over for dinner and I want to make sure it is perfect for her.  She loves lemon desserts, so I thought perhaps that this might be the perfect birthday cake for her.  What do you think?  Sometimes I see recipes that scream for me to make them, this recipe seems  to be only loudly talking, not screaming quite yet.   I think if I make this I will definitely have a few modifications on the recipe.

There is something about yellow desserts that I just love, they are always so inviting and refreshing, plus they are always so cheerful to look at.  Sometimes we all need something cheery and inviting, especially in the winter like this.  Anyways, I think this would make a lovely birthday cake I am thinking I will make a raspberry lemon glaze to put between the layers, and perhaps I will also use some raspberries and mint for garnish.

A Guilty Addiction...Worst Cooks in America

As I have mentioned, I love cooking shows, I am completely addicted to them.  A newer guilty addiction of mine is Worst Cooks in America on the Food Network.  I loved last season, the second season just began this past Sunday evening.  It is addictive entertainment.  Two professional chefs vie against each other to turn kitchen disasters into chefs.  It probably makes me a bad person that I delight so much in seeing bad chef in the kitchen.   Actually its amazing to see how much these kitchen disasters learn in such a short period of time.  It is really an enjoyable show, this was one of my favorite recipes that they featured last season.  I have made it several times, it is so good.  One small profiterole is usually enough for me though, since they are so rich and yummy.  Every time I make these though people rave and ask for the recipe.   Its a fairly simple recipe, it just requires that you focus solely on the task at hand though.  That is one thing that I have learned with desserts, its so much easier if you don't try to multi-task while doing them.  Never rush a dessert recipe, after all if I am going to indulge, I want that indulgence to be worth every single calorie.  I made these again this weekend and wow, what a treat!

What Genius Idea!

As I have mentioned, 2011 will be the year for me to get back into tip top shape.  Last year I had to have some medications that didn't exactly benefit my waistline.  This year I am turning this around, and I have decided I am going to start tomorrow, January 4th 2011.  I will take all of my measurements and eight etc. and start then.  Why tomorrow you ask?  It is because tomorrow is the beginning of The Biggest Loser for this season.  I have decided that I am going to lose weight along with the TV show.  My goal is to hit my goal size by the season finale.

I have always been a relatively petite girl.  I am only 5 feet tall, which has it advantages and disadvantages.  A big disadvantage is that even gaining 10 pounds makes me look significantly heavier just because I am  smaller to begin with.  On the plus side, losing 10 pounds looks like you lost a lot more than that.  I try to be realistic in my goals.  I don't want to be a zero or a sub zero.  I get cranky if I feel deprived so a crash diet is just not for me.  I am trying to focus on a lifestyle change not a diet, and focusing on portion control and moderation, and exercising of course.

Diet magazines and books have always intrigued me, I would love to hear tips from others.  What diet tricks do you  have?  How do you stay in shape?

Under the Weather

I apologize for not writing more last week, but I fell ill, and was just not feeling well at all.  Luckily I am feeling much better.  While I was sick though I did have a chance to try a new chicken noodle soup recipe.  It is from the Food Network's Tyler Florence, and let me just tell you, best chicken noodle soup ever!  You need to learn this recipe.  This on a cold day with french bread and hot chocolate, delicious!  There is something about this meal that will brighten any day, and with as cold as it has been this winter we can use all of the warm soup we can get!

Happy New Year

Happy 2011!  I can't believe it is already 2011.  I am very excited for 2011, not sure why but I really do feel that 2011 will be my year.  Here is to hoping at least.  The idea of New Year's Resolutions I have always found interesting.  It seems as though so many of us make goals that we never end up accomplishing, this  year I want to actually achieve my goals.  2010 was an interesting year, I learned a lot, and had some amazing experiences.  I feel confident that 2011 will be even better, and I do have a few goals for myself.
